The goal of the NUS Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) professional degree is to develop healthcare practitioners who use their Medication Therapy Expertise to help patients, communities and populations. Our graduates provide care for Singapore’s diverse patient populations, contribute to improving healthcare quality and patient safety, while managing their practice of pharmacy at technology-driven workplaces. In addition to careers as registered professionals, our graduates can draw on the transversal skills acquired in the programme to take up diverse careers, ranging from commercial and manufacturing careers in the pharmaceutical industry, to technology startups and consultancy, amongst others.
Prof Christina Chai obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) from the University of Canterbury and her Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from the Research School of Chemistry, Australian National University. Following her Ph.D., she was awarded a Violette and Samuel Glasstone Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford where she studied bioorganic reaction mechanisms. This was followed by Faculty positions at Victoria University of Wellington (1991-1993) and the Australian National University (1994-2004). Prof Chai was a Principal Scientist at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) (2004-2011) and was co-appointed Director of Graduate Affairs at A*STAR’s Science and Engineering Research Council (2008-2011). Prof Chai joined NUS in 2011 and is currently Head of NUS’ Department of Pharmacy.
Prof Paul Gallagher obtained his MBA and Ph.D. from University College London and Trinity College Dublin, respectively. He was previously the Head of Pharmacy of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) (2010-2018), where he reformed pharmacy education through his Directorship of the National Pharmacy Internship Programme and the establishment of the Irish Institute of Pharmacy. Before RCSI, Prof Gallagher established a pharmacy and medical centre in Dublin. He was recognised for his contributions to academic pharmacy practice by the Utrecht University (2016) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (2019).
Prof Chui Wai Keung holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Pharmacy from NUS and a Ph.D. from Aston University. A registered pharmacist, Prof Chui leads the Pharmacy Entrustable Professional Activity Committee for pre-registration training. He was awarded the Ishidate Award for Pharmaceutical Education at the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Association Congress in 2012. He was President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (2000-2003) and a recipient of the Professor Lucy Wan Outstanding Pharmacist Award.
