Data science is an interdisciplinary field, where processes and systems are used to extract knowledge or insights from data for data-driven decision-making. There is a substantial shortfall worldwide in data scientists - individuals with expertise in data analytics. The NUS degree programme in Data Science and Analytics will equip you with the necessary analytical and communication skills to gain a competitive edge in this rapidly growing field.
Prof Lim Tiong Wee received his undergraduate education in mathematics and graduate education in statistics at Imperial College London and Stanford University, respectively. He has been with NUS since he completed his graduate studies, except for a quarter spent at Stanford University in 2004 and a semester at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007. Prof Lim is Deputy Head (Academic) at NUS' Department of Statistics and Applied Probability. He also has research affiliations with the Faculty’s Centre for Quantitative Finance and NUS’ Risk Management Institute.
Dr Vikneswaran Gopal graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics from NUS in 2001. Upon graduation, he analysed encryption algorithms at the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies. He then pursued his Ph.D. in Statistics at the University of Florida, writing a dissertation on parallel Makov Chain Monte Carlo methods. Upon returning to Singapore, he worked for IBM Research, where he collaborated with government agencies on data analytics projects focusing on spatio-temporal models. His research interests are in the areas of computational methods, simulation techniques and exploring data in general. Dr Gopal has received four Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards.
