This talk will cover the real-world applications of mathematics, the career prospects of mathematics graduates and the vast number of pathways open to them. It will also introduce the various programmes offered by NUS’ Department of Mathematics, including Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and the boutique Quantitative Finance programme.
Prof Victor Tan received his B.Sc. from NUS and Ph.D. from the University of California. His research interests are in algebra and number theory. He is also a Fellow of the NUS Teaching Academy. He is President of the Singapore Mathematical Society and has organised a wide range of mathematics activities for school teachers and students. Prof Tan is Deputy Head (Teaching) at NUS' Department of Mathematics. He has received multiple Faculty- and University-level awards for teaching excellence, including the Outstanding Educator Award, the highest recognition for teaching at NUS.
