Financial Assistance Schemes
The Faculty of Science offers various financial assistance options to support students’ participation in overseas global exposure programmes.
Refer to the eligibility criteria and required supporting documents for the respective schemes below.
**Programmes administered/managed by NUS are not eligible for GEG. Self-sourced programmes are eligible for SSOEF and GEG only.
Faculty of Science Global Classroom (GCM) Grant
Award Quantum: Grant will be 70% of estimated cost of programme, capped at $500.
- Eligibility criteria for FoS Global Classroom (GCM) Grant
- Open to FoS full-time undergraduate students from all nationalities.
- Student must be accepted into a GCM course/programme approved by the Dean’s Office. These are specific courses/programmes managed by FoS departments/Dean’s Office. Examples of GCM courses are FSC4207, FST2204, SP2201 and SP3277.
- Student must not have received the GCM Grant during his/her candidature.
- Required supporting document(s)
- Approval email/letter from your scholarship/bursary provider to support your concurrent holding of the GCM Grant (if applicable).
NASA Enhancement Scholarship/Bursary [Faculty-administered]
**The information and application instructions stated here are applicable for FoS-administered NASA awards (not to be confused with GRO’s NASA Enhancement Bursary).
Scholarship: Granted based on academic merit | Bursary: For students who demonstrate financial need
Students may apply for both NASA Enhancement Scholarship and NASA Enhancement Bursary. However, only up to one of these awards may be awarded, though they can be stacked with other grants if eligible.
- Eligibility criteria for NASA Enhancement Scholarship
- Open to FoS full-time undergraduate students from all nationalities.
- Students in their final semester of study may apply if the overseas programme completes before the conferment dates.
- Students who are accepted to go on short term overseas research programme/immersion programme/field studies administered by Faculty of Science. Summer/winter programmes (coursework/research) are not eligible for NASA Enhancement Scholarship.
- Students NOT holding the following scholarships/awards:
- MOE Teaching Awards
- MOE Teaching Scholarship
- SAF Mindef Scholarship Centre
- SAF (Air Force)
- SAF Army Officers Mgt Centre
- SAF (DSTA)
- SAF (Joint Manpower Dept)
- SAF (Naval Personal Dept)
- Science & Technology Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
- Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship
- Any other scholarships/awards that sponsor the cost of overseas programme and/or do not allow concurrent holding of awards.
- Required supporting document(s)
- Approval email/letter from your scholarship/bursary provider to support your concurrent holding of the NASA Enhancement Scholarship (if applicable).
- Eligibility criteria for NASA Enhancement Bursary
- Open to FoS full-time undergraduate students who are Singapore citizens and demonstrate financial need.
- Students must apply for NUS Financial Aid to receive the grant. Students who have already applied for the financial aid for the relevant academic year prior to the application of the overseas programme do not need to submit another financial aid application.
- Students in their final semester of study may apply if the overseas programme completes before the conferment dates.
- Students who are accepted to go on short term overseas research programme/immersion programme/field studies administered by Faculty of Science.

Science Student Overseas Exposure Fund (SSOEF)
- Eligibility criteria for SSOEF
- Open to FoS full-time undergraduate students from all nationalities who demonstrate financial need.
- Students must apply for NUS Financial Aid to receive the grant. Students who have already applied for the financial aid for the relevant academic year prior to the application of the overseas programme do not need to submit another financial aid application.
- Students who have been accepted into the overseas programme that they are applying financial aid for.
- Required supporting document(s)
- Letter of offer/acceptance from the overseas organisation, stating the dates of the programme.
- Proof of nomination by NUS department or faculty (for conferences/competitions).
- Financial support document from external party (if any).
- Brief budget expenses such as airfare, transport, accommodation etc.
Faculty of Science Global Explorer Grant (GEG)
Quantum:
The value of the grant is based on the projected budget, up to S$500, S$1,000 or S$1,500, depending on the type of programme. Any request for additional funding will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Students may only receive the grant once during his/her entire candidature.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Successfully applied for self-sourced overseas programme in EduRec.
- Be a full-time Faculty of Science undergraduate.
- Have a clean disciplinary record.
- Not a graduand waiting for conferment of his/her undergraduate degree.
- Must not be a previous recipient of this grant.
- Not in receipt of other financial awards that provide similar funding for overseas trips.
- Preference for students with no prior overseas exposure trip.

Instructions to Apply
- Application: Apply online for via the application form here. Ensure that you have all supporting documents ready. Rename your documents using the format Student Number_Full Name_Document Name (e.g. A0123456X_John Tan Wei Jie_Scholarship Approval Email)
- Application Period: Students should submit their application at least 6 weeks before their trip. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Results: Students will be notified of the application outcome via their NUS email, about 2 – 4 weeks after submission of the application.
Terms and Conditions
- The award does not carry a bond. However, all awardees are expected to be NUS ambassadors and uphold the name of NUS and the Faculty of Science. Awardees are also expected to demonstrate good behaviour while on the overseas programme.
- The Faculty reserves the rights to withdraw the award (in full or partial) at any time without prior notice if awardees’ conduct is deemed inappropriate.
- Awardees MUST COMPLETE the entire programme and achieve a passing grade (where applicable). Students who fail to complete the programme may be subjected to a full/partial reimbursement to the Faculty for the award they received
- Students are required to complete the post trip formalities to receive the funds.
- Recipient may be required to submit a handwritten “appreciation letter” if the financial support comes from a donor (if applicable).
Post Trip Formalities for Disbursement of Funds
- Students are required to complete the post trip formalities within one month upon their return via this form to receive the disbursement. Required submissions for the post trip formalities include:
- Supporting documents for travel (e.g. receipts for airfare)
- Study Abroad Experience Form
- Research paper/poster for Research Attachment/Internship/Industrial Attachment (for GEG application)
- Minimum 6 high-resolution colour photographs:
- 1 image of host university / organisation
- 2 images of you with host university / landmarks in the background
- 3 images of you interacting with local populations
