Financial Assistance Schemes
The Faculty of Science offers various financial assistance options to support students’ participation in overseas global exposure programmes.
Faculty of Science Global Classroom Grant
- General criteria for Science Global Classroom Grant
- Student must be accepted into a Global Classroom programme approved by the Dean’s Office or the Departments within the Faculty of Science
- Student must be a full-time undergraduate student at Faculty of Science.
- Grant will be 70% of estimated cost of programme, capped at $500.
- It is a one-time grant during the student’s candidature
NASA Enhancement Scholarship/Bursary
- General criteria for NASA Scholarship and NASA Bursary
- Student must be a full-time undergraduate student at Faculty of Science
- Students in their final semester of study may apply if the overseas programme completes before the conferment dates.
- Students who are accepted to go on short term overseas research programme / immersion programme/ field studies administered by Faculty of Science.
- Students NOT holding the following scholarships/awards:
- MOE Teaching Awards
- MOE Teaching Scholarship
- SAF Mindef Scholarship Centre
- SAF (Air Force)
- SAF Army Officers Mgt Centre
- SAF (DSTA)
- SAF (Joint Manpower Dept)
- SAF (Naval Personal Dept)
- Science & Technology Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
- Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship
- Any other scholarships/awards that sponsor the cost of overseas programme and/or do not allow concurrent holding of awards.
- Specific criteria for NASA Enhancement Scholarship
- Open to Science students from all nationalities.
- Granted based on academic merit. Scholarships will be awarded to the most academically deserving students.
- Specific criteria for NASA Enhancement Bursary
- Open to Singaporeans who demonstrate financial need.
- Student must apply for NUS Financial Aid to receive NASA Bursary.
Science Student Overseas Exposure Fund (SSOEF)
- General criteria for SSOEF
- Student must be a full-time undergraduate student at Faculty of Science.
- Open to Science students from all nationalities who demonstrate financial need. Student must apply for NUS Financial Aid to receive SSOEF.
Faculty of Science Global Explorer Grant
- General criteria for Global Explorer Grant
- Student must be full-time undergraduate student at Faculty of Science with clean disciplinary record and is not in his/her final semester of study.
- Students may apply for the grant to fund the following self-initiated programmes:
- Field/Study Trip (minimum 5 days, excluding travelling days)
- Research Attachment/Internship/Industrial Attachment
- Community/Project/Service Learning
- Academic Competition/Conference/Workshop
- Student must apply and be approved for self-sourced overseas programme in EduRec.
- The value of the grant is based on the projected budget, up to S$1,500. Any request for additional funding will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Student must not be in receipt of other financial awards that provide similar funding for overseas trips
- Programme must not be linked to any credit-bearing course.
- Preference for students with no prior overseas exposure trip.
- It is a one-time grant during the student’s candidature

- To exclude Personal expenses (e.g. clothing, shopping) which will not be funded
- To include benefits (Stipend, Accommodation, Airfare etc) provided By Host University/Organisation/Company if applicable

Overseas Academic Competition / Conference /Workshop

- Email from the NUS research supervisor that states that they are unable to fund the conference and the justification for it
- Students will be considered for both Bursary and Scholarship as well as other financial aid(s) offered by the Faculty of Science.
- For NASA Enhancement Scholarship/Bursary, you will only be awarded ONE, though they can be stacked with the other Grant/Aid if eligible.
- The awarded funds will be disbursed to you upon the completion of the post trip formalities. Please be reminded to update your “Receiving Bank Account (Credit Bank Account)” via EduRec in order to receive the grants.

- Specific instructions for NASA Bursary and SSOEF
- After submitting an application, students will need to apply for financial aid via the Undergraduate Applicant Portal and submit all relevant supporting documents to the Office of Financial Aid for processing for the academic year of the overseas programme.
- Students who have applied for financial aid for the relevant academic year, prior to the application of the overseas programme, do not need to submit another financial aid application.
- Application Period: Students should submit their application at least 6 weeks before their trip. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Results: Students will be notified of the application outcome via their NUS email.
Terms and Conditions
- The award does not carry a bond. However, all awardees are expected to be NUS ambassadors and uphold the name of NUS and the Faculty of Science. Awardees are also expected to demonstrate good behaviour while on the overseas programme.
- The Faculty reserves the rights to withdraw the award (in full or partial) at any time without prior notice if awardees’ conduct is deemed inappropriate.
- Awardees MUST COMPLETE the entire programme and achieve a passing grade (where applicable). Students who fail to complete the programme may be subjected to a full/partial reimbursement to the Faculty for the award they received
- Students are required to complete the post trip formalities to receive the funds.
- Recipient may be required to submit a handwritten “appreciation letter” if the financial support comes from a donor (if applicable).
Post Trip Formalities for Disbursement of Funds
- Students are required to complete the post trip formalities within one month upon their return via this form to receive the disbursement. Required submissions for the post trip formalities include:
- Supporting Documents for Travel (Receipts for airfare)
- Study Abroad Experience Form
- A 1000-word report (and/or research paper/poster for self-initiated Research Attachment)
- Minimum 6 High Resolution Colour Photographs:
- 1 image of host university / organisation
- 2 images of you with host university / landmarks in the background
- 3 images of you interacting with local populations
