1975
Pharmacy incorporated as a department within Faculty of Science
1980s
University of Singapore merged with Nanyang University to become National University of Singapore (NUS)
NUS had three campuses – Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah and Sepoy Lines
1981
Faculty of Science moved to new 15-building Bio-Science Complex at Kent Ridge
The new complex housed the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Botany, Physics and Zoology
1986
NUS’ Science Library opens for service after six years of planning, preparation and removal work
1988
The Surface Science Laboratory was established for multidisciplinary research work and collaboration with the semiconductor industry
1990s
1993
Bioscience Centre*, Department of Biological Sciences, was launched to facilitate research relating to biotechnology
*Now Protein and Proteomics Centre
1994
Undergraduate Science Research Programme (USRP)* launched
*Now Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS)
1996
Special Programme in Science (SPS) launched
Department of Biological Sciences established by merging Departments of Botany and Zoology
1997
GEA-NUS Pharmaceutical Processing Research Laboratory set up to develop new manufacturing processes for drug delivery
Department of Pharmacy building officially opened
1998
Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI), the world’s first marine research institute in tropical waters, set up at St John’s Island
Raffles Museum for Biodiversity Research established
*Now Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum
Department of Statistics and Applied Probability established
*Now Department of Statistics and Data Science
Chemical, Molecular and Materials Analysis Centre (CMMAC) was established at Department of Chemistry
1999
