FoS Alumni-Student Mentorship Programme Appreciation Dinner (3rd Edition)
February 06, 2025The 3rd edition of the FoS Alumni-Student Mentorship Programme wrapped up with a heartfelt appreciation dinner on 5 February 2025.
This year, 190 students were successfully matched with 78 alumni mentors, fostering valuable mentorship connections.
Feedback from mentees revealed that they have gained greater clarity about their career paths, with the majority eager to recommend their mentors to future participants.
Here’s what our mentors and mentees shared about their experience
The program is a meaningful and exciting one. One of my mentees mentioned that she felt driven by fellow mentees to perfect her CV and apply for internship positions
Gu Deyu, Mentor
Thanks for the opportunity to engage and talk to motivated mentees! I’ve definitely learnt from them as well!
Han Weiding, Mentor
I benefited from the mentorship programme as my mentor (Ms Tang Hwee Suan) provided me with consistent support whenever I felt stressed or anxious about my future career and internship applications. Knowing that I could reach out to an industry professional at any time was incredibly reassuring, even though I was sometimes too shy to take full advantage of the opportunity.
I strongly encourage juniors to join the programme, especially those with little or no professional experiences. In today’s challenging job market, everyone is navigating uncertainties, and having access to guidance from experienced professionals can make a significant difference in finding the right path.
Ma Xianzhou, Mentee
I learnt a lot from my mentor (Mr Chia Ka Wei) and my mentee friends. I think it is a good opportunity for students to talk to someone who is older and have more experience in the same field that you are interested in.
Pan Xinyi, Mentee
Mr Yang Chunying is an excellent mentor. During our meetings, he shared his learning experiences at NUS as a senior, also gave Jingtao, Meredith and me suggestions regarding courses, professors, and university life. He depicted different career paths for statistics/data science majors, and also highlighted the skills that are important in the industry, such as time series, natural language processing, and database management. He shared a lot of ideas on how to secure an internship for junior Uni students, which are very plausible.
