Interview with Prof Liu Bin: NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology)

August 14, 2024

“Turn whatever you are dreaming about into reality.”

It is this belief that drives NUS’ Deputy President (Research and Technology) and Faculty of Science alumna Prof LIU Bin (PhD in Chemistry, 2001) – putting science to work to help solve problems that we face in daily life.

Her entrepreneurial endeavours allow her to do just that – to find a unique solution to a problem and create translational value at the same time.

Prof Liu is internationally renowned for her seminal contributions to the field of organic functional nanomaterials. She specialises in bringing organic materials into aqueous media, with a focus on providing important solutions to address problems in healthcare, environmental monitoring and electronic devices.

Prof Liu, who has been very passionate about entrepreneurship since she was a postdoctoral fellow at University of California, Santa Barbara, co-founded Luminicell, an NUS startup, that brings her research on a unique luminescent material with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) to the market. AIE probe technology offers real-time non-invasive cell imaging and tracing.
