Inaugural Faculty of Science Employers Engagement Dinner
October 02, 2023The inaugural Faculty of Science Employers Engagement Dinner was held on 18 September at the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House, to show the Faculty’s appreciation for the industrial partners who have contributed to the employability and industrial awareness of the Faculty of Science students by attending the annual Science Career and Internships Fair (SCIF), presenting an industrial seminar, and/or arranging a company visit for the students.
The Science Deanery team, helmed by Dean Prof Sun Yeneng, together with representatives from the departments, as well as the team from the Centre for Future-ready Graduate welcomed more than 30 employers for an evening of casual chats and networking.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof Sun underscored the critical roles that industrial partners play through the provision of information and inspiration to the next generation of science students. Prof Sun reiterated the continued commitment of the Dean’s Office to provide avenues for the employers to attract and assess student talent, including offering value-add services such as resume book campaign and on-site interviews for employers attending the SCIF.
In his remarks, Vice Dean A/Prof Chng Shu Sin (Student Life and Alumni Relations) explained the interdisciplinary curriculum of the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) launched in 2020, and how it would enrich the CHS students, which the years 1, 2 and 3 Faculty of Science students are now a part of. In the second segment, A/Prof Chng solicited feedbacks from the audience on a collection of potential immersion learning programmes that the Science Dean’s Office has developed.
Industrial representatives expressed their enthusiasm in continued collaborations with the Faculty of Science, and many of the guests found this intimate, networking session useful.
