One degree, many opportunities

For alumnus ENG Chun Heng, who graduated in 2018 with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Psychology, teaching is a multifaceted profession which is not only about instruction but more importantly, offering a rich and rewarding learning experience.

The knowledge he took away from his interdisciplinary education, he says, has made him a more effective educator.

Currently a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Pharmacy, Chun Heng says his Psychology minor has allowed him to better “understand the basics of how an individual learns and acquire knowledge.”

He adds, “The knowledge gained through my Final Year Project (FYP) in Chemistry – where I had to plan an experiment in a safe, orderly and efficient manner – has also allowed me to design experiments that are suitable for my undergraduates and guide them in acquiring laboratory skills during their practical module.”

And nothing is more memorable for Chun Heng than to see his students learn and become increasingly confident and competent in their laboratory skills as he walks with them on their journeys to discover their potential.
