Faculty Awards 2022 – Young Scientist Award
April 03, 2023Chemical catalysis promotes reactions to enable access to chemical products. However, it requires the use of expensive precious metals.
Dr KOH Ming Joo from the Department of Chemistry has gained acclaim for his research on sustainable catalysis technologies. His work has led to the discovery of cheaper, energy-efficient catalysts that transform abundant feedstock chemicals to value-added products that benefit industry.
Dr Koh’s team has published over 30 papers in top-tier scientific journals, including Nature Catalysis and Nature Chemistry, and filed four patents in his field.
Dr Koh was the first Singaporean to be named to the American Chemical Society’s Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN) cohort in 2022. He has received other noteworthy accolades such as the Singapore National Academy of Science’s Young Scientist Award, MIT Technology Review’s “Innovators under 35” Asia Pacific Award and the Tokyo Chemical Industry-Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC) Industry Award in Synthetic Chemistry.
