Science Alumni-Student Mentorship Programme

January 31, 2023

Our inaugural Science Alumni-Student Mentorship programme was launched in July 2022 to create a shared community for forging stronger bonds between our students and alumni. Through this mutually beneficial programme, our students acquire industry-relevant insights and career guidance, better enabling them to prepare for life and work after graduation. Our alumni mentors in turn contribute meaningfully to student development by coaching them. We successfully paired 25 mentors with 56 mentees in the inaugural run.

We successfully concluded our first round of the mentorship programme with an appreciation ceremony on Friday, 13 January 2023.

Here’s what our mentors and mentees have to say about their experience

Great initiative and I wish I had such an opportunity back when I was still a student!

Maybelline Tan, Mentor

Excellent program for both mentors and mentees to learn from one another as mentoring is definitely not a one-way channel only from a mentor to a mentee!

Serene Ong, Mentor

Ms Frances Tho is a very knowledgeable mentor with years of experience in the fintech and sales field. Her years of experience and deep understanding of her work provide useful insights to students who are keen on learning about the fintech pathway. She is also a very kind person, often sharing useful resources such as articles for her mentees to read through so that they will be updated with the industry.

Chin Sek Yi, Mentee

Dr Loke is an easy-going and responsible mentor. We have learned ‘secret’ to a successful interview, the structure of data analysis industry and many other useful and interesting knowledge. Thanks a lot for his sessions.

Chen Mingyue, Mentee

Jeremy is a very good mentor who actively finds activities to engage the mentees. In general, Jeremy is an easy person to talk to and readily responds to queries about the industry. He strongly believes that everyone should cultivate their unique skill(s) that will make them irreplaceable in the workforce. The coffee session is very educational, and I look forward to more learning opportunities. Even though we do not communicate much, Jeremy makes sure that each of our meetings is impactful.

Lee Wei Hao, Mentee

I would like to thank Lian Jye for being a patient, open minded, and considerate mentor. He has advised me on all aspects of life not only limited to but definitely focuses on the career aspect of my development. The advice he give is always reassuring yet has a clear direction, which helps me to navigate my life more easily.

Chen Yian, Mentee

I am just so thankful for Ms Serene’s Ong guidance over the past few months. Thank you to her for preparing for all the sessions and having a very clear agenda for each session, despite having such a hectic schedule! I really appreciate the time and effort she took to guide each of us. I have learnt so much about leadership, and I also got to know myself better 🙂 I hope she continue to guide other students like myself, and empower other women leaders!
