Science researchers placed among world’s influential scientific minds

November 16, 2022

Congratulations to Faculty of Science Professors, who are among a total of 34 NUS researchers named as the world’s most highly cited, based on the Highly Cited Researchers 2022 List published by data analytics firm, Clarivate.

The Highly Cited Researchers 2022 List uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify individuals from across the globe who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their chosen field or fields of research. This year, 7,225 researcher awards (issued to 6,938 individuals) from 69 countries and regions were announced – 3,981 in specific fields and 3,244 for cross-field impact.

The list is drawn from highly cited papers that rank in the top 1 per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index over the past decade. The list also identifies the research institutions and regions where they are based. The methodology that determines top influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate.

NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology), Professor Chen Tsuhan said, “NUS celebrates the exceptional accomplishments of our researchers who are driving innovation at the forefront of their fields and making significant real-world impact on the community. Their achievements contribute to cementing NUS’ position as a world-leading university and Singapore’s reputation as a thriving hub for research.”

David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate, said, “Research fuels the race for knowledge and it is important that nations and institutions celebrate the individuals who drive the wheel of innovation. The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at NUS who are having a significant impact on the research community as evidenced by the rate at which their work is being cited by their peers. These individuals are helping to transform human ingenuity into our world’s greatest breakthroughs – and it is an honour to celebrate their achievements.”
