Improving wound care
September 09, 2022Since her secondary school days, alumnae WONG Hui Xin (Pharmacy, 2022) has always had a keen interest in the sciences. She chose NUS Pharmacy because it allowed her to combine her interest in the subject and career aspirations to work in the healthcare sector.
“Pharmacy is a good mix of chemistry and biology, and this knowledge extends to impacting and changing people’s lives. It was definitely a course that I could see myself entering and enjoying,” says Hui Xin.
One of the most memorable and satisfying experiences during her four-year candidature was her Final Year Project (FYP) on comparing different wound healing models, something Hui Xin describes as “one of the hardest stints she had to go through in NUS”.
She explains, “It was a journey of many firsts. I got to handle cell lines on my own, learnt how to culture cells and had to overcome multiple hurdles when the cells did not grow properly.”
Despite the challenges, Hui Xin published her first paper in the Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology together with her supervisor and external collaborator, making it an even more unforgettable milestone for her.
