In the third seminar as part of the Faculty of Science Industrial Seminar Series (ISS) on 6 September 2022, we welcomed Point72, a global asset management company, and its systematic investing business, Cubist Systematic Strategies. Cubist specialises in developing and implementing systematic, computer-driven trading strategies to invest across different liquid asset classes. This seminar drew close to 100 students from the  mathematical sciences and computing, who were curious to find out more about Cubist and quantitative trading.

Dr Cyril DEREMBLE, a physicist by training, kicked off the seminar by giving an overview of Cubist and elaborated on the job scope of a research analyst, which is one of the three main roles in Cubist, including data scientists and software developers. He went through an interactive financial time series analysis and used that as an example of how statistical methods can be applied to real-world questions.

The last two ISS seminars of this semester will feature P&G on 5 October and Marina Bay Sands on 14 October.
