Jaymond founded Project We Are One (WAO) under the NUS Students’ Community Service Club to bridge the gap between foreign workers and the NUS community.

During COVID-19, the WAO team put together weekly care packs in five languages sharing updates on the pandemic, exercises, English tutorials, and links to short films, online games and attractions around the world as entertainment. They also created weekly edutainment TikTok videos and YouTube tutorials.

With the help of Transient Workers Count Too (TWC2), they also delivered items from an earlier donation drive in March, which amassed tee-shirts, toiletries, bags and other useful items.

Jaymond says, “It does not take a lot to reach out to our migrant worker community. The pandemic opened up new ways to engage them through social media.”

The team also rolled out educational initiatives to help the NUS community better understand the migrant worker scene. These included Instagram templates, fun facts, a video series, and a drive to encourage students to share messages for migrant workers through photographs.

“I hope that our initiatives can contribute to create a more inclusive society for migrant workers, and to counter misconceptions that the youth may have of them,” Jaymond adds.

Project concluded in July 2020.
