In July 2017, QAF Limited pledged a gift of $100,000 in the name of Gardenia Foods (S) Pte Ltd (“Gardenia Foods”), to set up the Gardenia Bursary for NUS Science students over five years. Gardenia Foods is a wholly-owned subsidiary of QAF Limited, and a leading manufacturer and distributor of the Gardenia brand of packaged bread in Singapore.

The bursaries are valued at $10,000 each, and will give financially disadvantaged students the valuable opportunity of enjoying the full benefits of NUS Science’s holistic education without financial worries. Two bursaries will be awarded in each academic year.

In appreciation of the gift, Deputy Dean of Science Prof Peter HO hosted lunch for Dr NG Cher Siang, Gardenia Foods’ Managing Director; Ms Cynthia SAMBOO, Gardenia Foods’  Director (Sales & Marketing); Mr TAN Teck Huat, QAF Finance Director; Mr CHEAH Tik Wah,  QAF Senior Manager;  Mr ONG See Fong, QAF Taxation Manager and  Mr Johnie TAN, QAF Legal Counsel.

Also present at the cheque presentation ceremony and lunch were Associate Dean (Undergraduate Matters) Prof CHUA Tin Chiu; Associate Professor (Food Science and Technology Programme) Prof LIU Shao Quan; Alumni Relations Consultant Dr Lawrence CHIA; and Director of Administration Ms Susan TAN from the Faculty of Science.

Gardenia Foods seeks to be a caring corporate citizen by giving back to society through various philanthropic, community and charitable causes. For instance, it was the first and one of the most active corporate supporters of the Singapore Kindness Movement which seeks to cultivate a kinder and more caring society. Gardenia Foods has supported this campaign for the past 12 years.

Dr Ng, Gardenia Foods’ Managing Director said, “We are committed to making a positive impact to contribute to the betterment of society. Through initiatives like the Gardenia Bursary, we hope to help future generations by enabling talented students to achieve their educational and career aspirations.”
