We produced a specially curated wall – featuring water colour portraits of the 17 Deans over our 95-year history – to pay tribute to their contributions over the years which transformed the Faculty to become a leader in science education and research in Asia and beyond.
The event hosted by Dean of Science Prof Sun Yeneng was attended by all of our Deans from the last 40 years – Profs Bernard Tan, Lee Soo Ying, Lai Choy Heng, Tan Eng Chye, Andrew Wee and Shen Zuowei – each of whom shared insights and anecdotes from their respective tenures.
“The Faculty of Science is where it is today, thanks to the vision, planning, dedication and hard work of all our Deans.”
Prof Sun Yeneng
Dean of Science
This premier event was a unique opportunity for our scientists, educators, student leaders and entrepreneurs to come together to share their research discoveries in the life, physical and mathematical sciences, innovative educational practices, student advocacy and entrepreneurial successes, respectively.
The Charity Golf event raised a record of over S$1.2 million for the Faculty’s 95th Anniversary Bursary Fund – the largest amount raised in the history of the NUS Charity Golf series since 2012. The Bursary Fund will support over 40 bursaries for financially disadvantaged students each year, starting from 2026. This will give our students the opportunity to realise their full potential, regardless of their circumstances.
The year’s celebrations culminated with a Gala Dinner attended by Guest of Honour NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye and our faculty, staff, students, alumni and benefactors.
Three alumni received Distinguished Science Alumni Awards in recognition of national leadership, service, research excellence or the betterment and promotion of science. Another 13 alumni received Outstanding Science Alumni Awards for contributions to their professions / industries, service to the nation / community, entrepreneurship, research and other noteworthy endeavours.
The Faculty of Science is one of the top in Asia and the world for science education and research. The Annual Report showcases the Faculty’s achievements for the year and highlights the transformative impact of our endeavours in education, research, enterprise and community through inspiring stories of our science community.
