An interactive evening of networking between science alumni and students where alumni from various industry share insightful work experiences with students.
2023 Networking Session:
On 22 September, more than 150 Science undergraduates joined the 11th NUS Science Alumni-Student Networking Evening organised by the Faculty of Science in collaboration with the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates.
Trailblazing in various industries ranging from the public sector, financial services, and data science to research and entrepreneurship, 21 alumni mentors took time off their busy schedules to share their career experiences and interact with the students during the networking session.
The event was well-received, garnering positive feedback from both alumni mentors and participants.
I really had a good time chatting with the students! Hopefully, there’ll be more of these opportunities in the future.
Ibrahim, mentor
I had the privilege of engaging in a meaningful conversation with an esteemed alumnus who has cultivated a distinguished career within the public sector—an aspiration I too hold dear. Beyond imparting valuable insights pertaining to optimizing one’s university experience, encompassing secondary majors/minors and international programs, he shed light on the evolving priorities that life presents and that work-life balance may be of greater importance in the near future. While the alumni shared the struggles he experienced as a fresh university graduate back then, it was also a poignant reminder for current students to look beyond just the curriculum/modules and build people management skills and other general soft skills in order to adapt to dynamic working environments.

The event was an eye-opener, as they gave me advice on the current industry’s trends and working culture. What stood out to me was the wealth of experience some alumni had, especially regarding job security and employability across various sectors. Overall, it was a very fruitful experience!

The Science Alumni-Student networking session was an enriching experience! It allowed me to speak to many of my predecessors about their experiences and challenges in their respective fields. They gave me much life advice as a Year 3 student and how I can be better prepared for the workforce. Now, I can make an informed decision on my potential career choice and the direction I want to take after graduation! Thank you to all the Alumni!
