Freshmen Orientation Projects

Science Freshmen Orientation Projects (FOPs) include camps, events and performances organised by Science Club and the Science academic societies to provide an avenue for freshmen to get to know their ways around NUS, and mingle with fellow freshmen and seniors.

For most freshmen, these activities will be the first of many events that they will be participating in here in NUS Science and so, provide the first insights about academic and student life for a Science student. With a wide diversity of FOPs to cater to everyone’s interests, there is no shortage of opportunities for freshmen to partake in.

Receiving and Giving, or more commonly known as RAG, is an event unique to NUS where we put up a performance to show our gratitude towards the public for having contributed to FLAG!
Each participating body showcases their dance choreography amidst the stunning floats and costumes they have created during the summer to culminate in a performance. Come join us on this journey to create magnificent floats, design beautiful costumes, and perform amazing dance routines, all while making new friends with your fellow freshmen and seniors to put up an unforgettable performance!

Looking for opportunities to interact and bond with your peers while contributing back to society? Join Flag! As a Freshmen Orientation Project, Flag organizes events in which participants and volunteers spend time together to raise funds and awareness for our beneficiary, namely Flag Day, STEPUP! Charity walk-run and Old Items Collection. We hope to cultivate the perspective that community service can be fun and interesting, as well as to promote the formation of meaningful connections among Science Faculty students and our beneficiaries.

Happening at the start of the semester, Science Freshmen Induction (Sci-Fi!) is a chance for freshmen who missed the previous FOPs in summer to have an unforgettable orientation experience! Sci-Fi! aims to integrate freshmen, especially international students, into our vibrant Science culture, and introduces them to the unique NUS campus as well. NUS Students’ Science Club: Science BASH
Science Bash is the finale event for the Freshman Orientation Programme. 12 contestants will put on a variety of exciting performances throughout the night for the incoming cohort. As part of the event, these contestants will model stylish outfits on the runway stage, perform exhilarating dance moves and showcase talent time acts ranging from singing to cosplay to comedy skits!. After a night filled with fun, games and laughter, the Science King and Queen will be crowned for the upcoming academic year.
As part of our mission, NUS Science Bash looks to promote eco-fashion and sustainable living by exposing the Science community to brands that encompass such a lifestyle, and to educate our friends and colleagues on the choices they can make to be more environmentally friendly. We also hope to cultivate the values of showmanship and self-confidence in our contestants!
