Highly Cited Researchers 2023
November 16, 2023Seven Faculty of Science researchers – from the Departments of Chemistry, Food Science and Technology, and Physics – have been named in the Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list published by data analytics firm Clarivate.
Each of these NUS honourees have demonstrated substantial impact in their respective field and authored multiple highly cited papers which rank in the world’s top 1 per cent by citations for their respective fields and publication year in the Web of Science over the past decade.
This year, Clarivate issued 7,127 Highly Cited Researcher designations to 6,849 researchers from 68 countries and regions, with 3,795 researchers from specific fields and 3,332 researchers from cross-field impact.
The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate prepares the list yearly by adopting a complex and comprehensive strategy that combines available inter-related information from highly cited papers. ISI creates a preliminary list based on citation activity and refines it using qualitative analysis and expert judgement.
NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology) Professor Liu Bin said, “NUS is immensely proud of our outstanding researchers who are making a profound impact through their exceptional work and ground-breaking discoveries. Their dedication to pursuing excellence and pushing the boundaries of research is truly inspiring. As they continue to make significant contributions as scientists, their remarkable accomplishments across diverse fields will play a crucial role in tackling the intricate challenges of our world, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.”
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate, said, “The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at NUS whose significant and broad influence in their fields translates to impact in their research community and innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable and more secure. Their contributions resonate far beyond their individual achievements, strengthening the foundation of excellence and innovation in research.”
The 44 highly cited NUS researchers in their respective fields are:
