Industrial Seminar Series (ISS): Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Marina Bay Sands (MBS)
November 09, 2022The Industrial Seminar Series concluded for Semester 1, with the final two seminars offered by Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
On 5 October, the team from Procter & Gamble (P&G) Singapore Innovation Centre (SgIC) visited the Faculty of Science for the Industrial Seminar Series.
SgIC has the biggest private research facility in Singapore undertaking cutting-edge research into skincare and hair products. P&G puts significant focus on research work through the support of over 470 research and development (R&D) staff and USD$2 billion per year. Speakers from SgIC shared about the numerous R&D internship opportunities available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Dr Ross STRAND, Research Fellow at the Oral Care division, and Mr Rasoul MADADI, R&D Director at P&G Chemicals, Eurasia, shared about the wide variety of research and management roles at P&G. Scientist speakers also spoke about opportunities to carry out interesting and commercially viable research.
Young and aspiring scientists, such as NUS alumnus Dr WANG Yunzhu, scientist at P&G Hair Care division, and current Life Sciences student PAN Shih-Yu who is interning at P&G, shared about their experiences and projects at SgIC.
For the final instalment of the Industrial Seminar Series, the team from Marina Bay Sands (MBS) visited the Faculty of Science on 14 October to share about the application of data science in the hospitality and gaming industries.
MBS’ integrated resort (IR) offers shopping, dining and gaming opportunities and data science is an essential part of the IR’s operations. The speakers – Mr Dennis CHEN, Director of Casino Analytics and Optimisation and Ms Yunsheng GONG, Associate Director of Casino Analytics and Optimisation – discussed projects where data science is applied to solve real-world problems. These projects include product analytics and optimisation, manpower proficiency, campaign analytics, hotel room optimisation and total customer value.
The ISS will return in Semester 2 and will be offered in conjunction with the new Science Industry Insights module to continue building Science students’ awareness of the industry landscape and trends.
