Antibodies
Have you ever wondered who we can donate our blood to and who you can receive your blood from? What is blood compatibility and how important it is in blood transfusions? Are there ways to detect and quantify antigen-antibody interactions? Join us for the Antibodies workshop to discover these answers and find out how powerful our immune system is!
The Antibodies workshop will give a brief introduction to the two main arms of our immune system and how our body reacts upon encountering foreign pathogens through hands-on experiments.
Workshop participants will take part in hands-on activities to understand the functions of antigens and antibodies in our blood and the significance of ABO blood groups in blood transfusions. With an understanding of how the immune system works, we will then conduct a simulated analytical biochemistry experiment to investigate how we detect the presence of antigens / antibodies.
