Academic Mentorship in Science
The Academic Mentorship in Science scheme was set up to provide guidance to our undergraduate students, promote intellectual interaction and engagement between faculty members and students, and foster stronger bonding with our students.
Each new matriculated student is assigned by the Department Head / Programme Coordinator / Administrator to an academic staff, who is a full-time faculty member teaching the students in the same or related major / discipline.
Both the student and the academic mentor will be informed of their academic mentor-mentee partnership by email. They are encouraged to communicate with each other. The academic mentor will make every effort to provide guidance and support to the student. The student will learn from the academic mentor and make every effort to realise his/her full potential in academic pursuit.
Should the mentee fail to maintain a minimum CAP of 2.00 in any given semester, the academic mentor will be informed. The mentor will contact the student and assist him/her or refer him/her to the Special Mentor in the department. The academic mentor can advise the student on study methods, time management and understanding of concepts in subject matters. The academic mentor may also refer the student to:
- Counselling and Psychological Services under University Health Centre, if the student needs help emotionally;
- International Student Services at Office of Student Affairs, if the student is a foreigner who needs accommodation and other support;
- Office of Financial Services, if the student needs financial assistance;
- Career Services at the Office of Student Affairs, if the student needs information on career prospects.
