Mr. Lorimer YongLorimer Yong

Lorimer Yong graduated from NUS with Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology and realising his passion in aviation, he joined Singapore Airlines immediately after graduation as a cadet pilot. On completion of his training, he was appointed as a First Officer on the Airbus A340 and subsequently, on Boeing B777, Airbus A345 and A330 aircraft. He was also part of the crew that operated the first ultra-long range flight from Singapore to New York in 2004.

In 2014, Lorimer attained the rank of Captain on the Airbus A330 where he is still currently flying. He was appointed as an instructor in 2016 and flies mainly to destinations in the Asia-Pacific and South-east Asia region. He also serve extensively in Flight Operations management assisting in projects for the training and development of pilots.

Ms. Gwen Chua Gwen Chua

A spinning enthusiast, Gwen likes to break into a sweat and push herself to overcome challenges and add value to any digital media project on hand. Her double major in science and arts has lent her an unique perspective in traversing between quantitative digital metrics and qualitative human insights.

Having 6 years experienced both agency’s and publisher’s end of the equation, and worked on multiple APAC projects, Gwen has a keen understanding of the regional media landscape. To keep ahead of the rapid growth of the digital media industry, she is constantly looking to equip myself with new skills and knowledge.

She is now in a different industry, focusing on B2B partnerships in travel distribution solutions.

SUPT Victor Loo Victor Loo

Upon graduating from the National University of Singapore, Superintendent of Police (SUPT) Victor Loo joined the Singapore Police Force. After completing nine months of training at the Police Training Command, he was posted to Tanglin Police Division where he served as an Investigation Officer for two years before assuming the role of an Officer-In-Charge of a General Investigation Squad in 2002 at Jurong Police Division. He was subsequently posted to the Criminal Investigation Department where he took on the position as a Staff Officer of the newly set-up Bomb Data Centre (BDC) for five years before assuming the post as Head BDC. After four and a half years, SUPT Loo was appointed the Deputy Head of Investigation in Bedok Police Division. Currently, he is the Head of the Planning and Organisation Development Branch at Jurong Police Division where he oversees the planning and implementation of the division's strategic initiatives.

SUPT Loo has won multiple accolades which include the Gold award at the Ministry of Home Affairs InnoFest 2010 for Outstanding Ideas Contributor. He was also the sole Home Team Officer to win the 2010 Public Service ExCEL Gold award for ‘Best Ideator’.


Mr. Tan Wei Hao Tan Wei Hao

Wei Hao serves the capabilities development and engagement pillars of Registries in building operational excellence. He engages business and government stakeholders to promote the intellectual property (IP) regime in Singapore and help grow the local innovation landscape.

Prior to his present appointment, Wei Hao handled the ASEAN, Americas, Europe, Middle East and India portfolios at the International Engagement Department. He was a frequent representative for Singapore at international fora and meetings to help develop IPOS as a world acclaimed innovation agency.



Mr. Ong Lip Hua Ong Lip Hua

Lip Hua has been a cog in public sector, big companies and rolled up his sleeves in start-ups. He performed searches for multiple layers across different sectors as a junior partner in a new search firm; including Fortune 500 companies and large Pharmaceuticals as his clients. Lip Hua has since become an in-house HR of an airline and now manage talent acquisition of one of the world’s largest fast moving consumer goods (FMCG).

Having been an agency headhunter, in-house Talent Acquisition (HR) and a stint in compensation & benefits, Lip Hua has deep insights in hiring practices and processes.

He writes occasionally on career planning, talent acquisition and currently also provides mentorship to recruiters who seek his advice.

Mr. Koo Ping Shung Koo Ping Shung

Mr. Koo is an experienced Data Scientist/Analytics Instructor with an MBA degree & 13+ years of relevant experience. A strong and passionate advocate of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, hoping more people, both business and talents, get on the bandwagon to derive tremendous business value from DS/AI. He has experience in data management and governance, machine learning/statistical modeling, business intelligence and text analytics. He is also familiar with common tools such as SAS, R, Python and SQL.

He co-founded DataScience.Sg, an interest group on Data Science in Nov 2013, growing it to more than 5000 members within 36 months and was the former Chairman of Working Committee, Singapore SAS User Group.

Mr. Koo is also a mentor & trainer in SAS-IDA Data Scientist Consultant Programme, instructor at NUS SCALE and Senior Adjunct Faculty at SUSS. He has conducted analytics-related training to various professionals inclusive of banking professionals in T&O, supervised Masters students’ analytics project and was previously and adjunct faculty of SMU. He was also a facilitator for IDA Data Science MOOC Initiative and Data Literacy Bootcamp for Journalist that was organized by World Bank and IDA.


Dr. Loke Chok Kang Dr Loke Chok Kang

Dr. Loke Chok Kang obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics and Applied Probability from NUS. After his graduation, he landed his first job as an Analyst (Revenue Optimization) at Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd where he made use of commercial data to improve business revenue.

Subsequently, Dr. Loke joined the Civil Service as a Senior Biostatistician with Ministry of Health (MOH) where he was in charge of forecasting the healthcare manpower, demand and disease burden to help MOH and its partners to better plan their resources to effectively implement health policies. In 2016, Dr. Loke moved to the Prime Minister’s Office, Public Service Division (PSD). During the 4 years in PSD, he undertook the tasks of providing critical analysis and thought leadership on a wide range of issues, developing diagnostic toolkits and systems so as to upskill the HR analytics capabilities within the Public Service. This allowed the HR community across the Public Service to effectively use data science to review and improve current HR processes and policies.

Dr. Loke recently joined the private sector as a Data Scientist where he helps identify and implement HR analytics solutions for the organization.


Mr. Soh Rong'en Soh Rongen

Rong'en started his career as a technology consultant with IBM Global Services, where he consulted for clients from diverse industries such as banking and healthcare, developing digital strategies and bespoke software to solve their business challenges.

Thereafter, Rong’en joined DBS Bank where he brings together data scientists and business stakeholders to use big data and analytics to drive business value.


Mr. Jacob Tian Zeyu Jacob Tian Zeyu

After graduating in 2015, Mr. Jacob Tian Zeyu landed his first job as Pricing Actuary with NTUC Income. There, together with the underwriters, he used analysis to review pricing requests and business tenders.

Continuing his interest in data analytics, Jacob then joined NUS-Risk Management Institute (NUS-RMI) where he did model validation and calibration related to credit risk.

In 2017, Jacob made the move to the financial industry as a Data Scientist with Standard Chartered Bank. In his current role, he provides tailored machine learning solutions to improve or even redesign various business processes, such as AML, sanction, fraud and etc.



Ms. Tan Jing Yan (Julienne) Tan Jingyan

Currently pursuing M.Sc. in Science Communication  

A multi-faceted person, Ms. Tan did chemistry as she saw it as ‘messing with the Lego blocks of the universe’ but realized research was not for her, but rather teaching after mentoring students in her fourth year. She is currently pursuing her Joint-Masters of Science Communication (NUS-ANU).

She has been with the teaching force for 3 years, and is occasionally forced to evaluate her own understanding of her knowledge in order to answer questions such as “How do you teach what is matter without using the words atoms or molecules?”, or “How do you explain why water evaporates but raw egg white does not, without mentioning denaturation or protein molecules?”. Her job requires her to wear many hats which include, but are not limited to, skills such as conflict management, intergenerational communication, and event organization.

She currently assists as an alumni at USP, and on some weekends, functions as a volunteer gallery guide at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum. During her spare time, she makes soft toys, sews pockets into her dresses and engages in casual bird watching.

Mr. Walter Lim Walter Lim

Founder of content marketing agency Cooler Insights, Walter has almost 25 years of leadership experience in digital marketing, Public Relations, strategy, and industry development. In 4 years, his team helped almost 50 companies to improve their online marketing efforts, and trained over 1,500 individuals in online and offline marketing.

Appointed council member of the Media Literacy Council (led by IMDA Singapore) by the Minister of Communications and Information, Walter is also a Juror for the Mumbrella Asia Awards 2017 and 2018. Prior to that, he was a judge for SPH’s Singapore Blog Awards for 5 consecutive years.

Prior to being an entrepreneur, Walter was the director of marketing and corporate communications in various organisations like the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), National Gallery, and National Heritage Board (NHB). An NHB Scholar, he received numerous academic awards during his time in NUS including the F&N Book Prize, Malayan Nature Society Silver Medal, Gillilan Memorial Medal, Singapore Gardening Society Book Prize, and Dean’s List.

After graduation, Jia Tong entered a career as an analyst in a top fund management firm and subsequently as a trader in a leading local financial institution. Subsequently he honed his trading skills in the area of commodities. His aptitude in quantitative problem solving prepared him well for such high-pressure, quick response role.

Today, he has changed his career path to follow his passion for fine wines. Starting his own wine importing and retailing business since 2014, Jia Tong is now managing a company which works with top wineries in Europe to distribute and promote their fine wines here and regionally. He believes the strong relationship between him and his suppliers and with his clients are what keeps him going in this competitive marketspace.

Dr. Willy Chin Dr Willy Chin

Scientist (Regulatory Manager), Global Product Stewardship, Procter & Gamble

Willy is a Scientist in the Global Product Stewardship Department of Procter & Gamble and based in P&G Singapore Innovation Center. He has close to 2 years of professional experience in Asia-Pacific regulatory compliance management and provides regional regulatory consulting and expertise to support end-to-end innovation in beauty care, with a focus on skin care brands.

Prior to joining P&G, he embarked on a 1-year stint in a local biomedical start-up which aims to incubate and commercialize medical technology innovation. This has since sparked his interest in the unique interface of regulatory affairs, science and business.

Willy obtained his B.Appl.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Chemistry from NUS in 2011, and was subsequently awarded the NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences & Engineering (NGS) Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering. He has culminated 5 years of multidisciplinary academic and international industrial research experience in the design and development of synthetic polymers for anti-microbial, water purification and drug delivery applications.


Ms. Louise Chng Ruisi Louise Chng

Louise experiments with food, both for work and leisure.

Upon graduation, she joined Mondelēz International, the snacking powerhouse whose brands include OREO, Ritz, Cadbury, Toblerone, Milka, Philadelphia and HALLS. She started out as a product developer for mint tablets, working on brands such as Clorets in Thailand and Stride in China, before moving on to developing chewing gums for Japan under the Clorets and Recaldent brands. As part of her remit, she has had the opportunity to travel to Mondelēz’s gum and candy factories in China, Thailand and Japan, as well as work with cross-functional colleagues in different continents. Recently, she was also actively involved in the setup of Mondelēz International’s Singapore Technical Centre, officially inaugurated in Feb 2018.

When she is not in the lab making chewing gum, she enjoys baking and decorating cakes and pastries, truly living Mondelēz International’s stated vision of creating delicious moments of joy.

During Sylvia’s diploma in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and degree in NUS,she was exposed to clinical trials. While Sylvia liked doing research, she knew that working in the front-line instead of in the laboratory suited her personality better.

Since graduation, Sylvia has worked in two Swiss pharmaceutical MNCs - Roche and Novartis as a Clinical Research Associate and subsequently took on an additional role in training and compliance to improve the quality of herself and others in conducting clinical trials. It provides her a great sense of satisfaction by bringing innovative medicines to patients. While she monitored a variety of clinical trials across therapeutic areas and phases, her specialty is in the monitoring early phase oncology clinical trials and have also conducted a trial with healthy subjects. She enjoys what she does at work as it gives her a sense of purpose and meaning.

Graduated as a molecular virologist with 2 technology know-hows filed, Dr. Keith Chong has a clear vision of going straight into industry after graduation to learn how to commercialize products in the Life Science Industry. He joined Merck Life Science after graduation as the Southeast Asia field application scientist which was a good bridge between technical and commercial.

In 2 years, Keith was promoted to be the Head of Research to promote Research products to the academic customers in Southeast Asia. To further sharpen his marketing skills, he steps up again to be the regional marketing manager for cell biology, immunoassay and gene editing product portfolios in Asia Pacific. At the same time, he is also involved in setting up a biotechnology startup company in Singapore and helping up with fundraising.

Shi Ping started her career as a Quality Assurance administrator/trainee in a Clinical Research Organization (CRO), ICON Clinical Research where she learnt to perform clinical trial audits, internal systems audits and external service provider audits in 2009.

Shi Ping then moved on to Janssen Pharmaceutical as a Senior Associate (Auditor) in 2011 where she expanded her audit skill sets to Pharmacovigilance (safety reporting) audits. During her seven years in Janssen, she had led different Health Authorities inspections in the Asia Pacific region such as Shanghai and Taiwan. Such opportunities have allowed Shi Ping to share her inspection experiences in the Pharmaceutical Forum.

As Shi Ping is a strong believer of soft skills development, besides audit conduct, she was also involved in several company projects such as communications work stream, J&J Tedex talks and Credo activities. As part of the company’s goals and objectives, Shi Ping had initiated net-working activities within her company to increase collaboration and trust between departments.

Shi Ping has won the Encore Gold Award twice – for successfully leading the Local and Global Credo Activities, as well as for leading the Taiwan Food & Drug Inspection.

Ms. Chong Chiew Mei Chong Chiew Mei Updated S

Upon graduation from NUS in Applied Chemistry, Ms Chong Chiew Mei joined her internship company Shimadzu Asia Pacific as an Application Chemist. This is where she specialized in the operation of operation of GC/GCMS and the related accessories and guided the clients in their method developments. She was also involved in the research and publications of various related applications.

In 2016, Ms Chong became an Application Specialist for CTC Analytics AG and based in Switzerland to learn about translating chemical sample preparation processes into robotic workflows. Currently, she is working for CTC Analytics Asia to promote the robotic workflows in the Asia Pacific region.
