Raphael HoMr Raphael Ho

General Manager (Singapore/Malaysia), Amgen Singapore

Raphael graduated from the NUS Food Science and Technology Programme and joined Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In the ensuing 11 years, he has held positions of progressively increasing responsibility, building expertise across GSK’s commercial business. Raphael has led teams and managed a wide range of businesses ranging from highly specialized areas of Rheumatology and Oncology to the more consumer type portfolios of Allergy and Dermatology. At one point, Raphael was based between London and Singapore as  the Global Commercial Director for the Emerging Markets region at GlaxoSmithKline HQ, where he had commercial oversight for the portfolio in 36 markets across Latin America, Middle East and Asia Pacific.

Presently with Amgen, Raphael is responsible for starting up and leading the growth of the company in Singapore and Malaysia, and enabling Amgen to better serve patients in these countries.

Raphael holds dual Master of Business Administration degrees from Waseda University, Tokyo and Nanyang Business School.


 Aparna MahadevanMs Aparna Mahadevan

Aparna recently graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Life Sciences, specializing in Biomedical Science, and a minor in Public Health. Her passion for pursuing a career in the field of Biological Science and helping peoples’ lives began at a young age. Aparna pursued several internships during her academic pursuit. Her experience in various laboratories around the world, such as Rice University, Temasek Life Science Laboratory and A*STAR, honed her research skills.

Upon completing her education, Aparna believed that her strong people skills would better suit a profession other than in R&D, so she chose to power the world of work by joining Hays Specialist Recruitment. She specializes in recruitment within Life Sciences and works with key players in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices industries:  GSK, AbbVie, MSD, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Siemens and Stryker to name a few. She recruits for roles such as Medical Director, Medical Advisor, Formulation Scientists, Synthetic Chemists and more.  Mr Wang Kaiye Wang Kaiye

Assistant Manager, Pharmaceuticals/ Marketing, LF Asia Distribution

Kaiye graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Science (Pharm.) (Hons.) in 2011. He obtained his Pharmacy License at Alexandra Hospital before joining LF Asia Distribution as a Regulatory Affairs Specialist. From there, he did a lateral movement to Marketing.

As a Product Manager, he holds direct Profit & Loss responsibility for the company’s Gastroenterology and Cardiology portfolio.He analyses market needs, develops strategies, and implements marketing activities, with the input of the sales team to drive awareness and sales.

Kaiye has experience in Regulatory and Quality Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Community and Hospital Pharmacy.



Dr Lee May Yin Lee May Yee

Research Fellow / Cancer Therapeutics and Stratified Oncology, Genome Institute of Singapore, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)

After several interesting research stints as an undergraduate probing into the wonders of nature, May Yin knew that she would like to try her hand in experimental science    upon graduation. As a recipient of the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship, she did her PhD thesis under Jacqueline Veltmaat at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology,         studying mammary gland development and pathology. Thereafter, she joined the laboratory of mouse genetics and stem cell expert, Cedric Blanpain in Belgium where she     spent 3 years studying the cell of origin of breast cancer and what it takes to do top-level research. She recently joined the Genome Institute of Singapore and is actively involved in projects to study breast cancer and undergraduate training and mentoring.



Mr Wee Chorng Shin Wee Chorng Shin

Senior Teacher, Chemistry, Hwa Chong Institution (College)

Chorng Shin graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in 2007. He spent two years at The Hong Kong University of Science And Technology to pursue his Master of Philosophy in research with

Professor Wu Yundong, working on the theoretical studies of Diels-Alder reactions in natural product biosynthesis. In 2009, he returned to Singapore and took a year to  complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, after which he joined Hwa Chong Institution as a lecturer, where he was involved in teaching chemistry to students in a  variety of programs such as H2 Chemistry, H3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Science and Math Talent Program. He currently serves as the Senior Teacher in Chemistry driving various curriculum initiatives and mentoring early-career teachers.

Since the inaugural Singapore Junior Chemistry Olympiad in 2010, he has been a key member in the Scientific Committee where he involved himself in the setting and vetting of questions in the theory and practical rounds of the competition.




Dr Alvin LooAlvin Loo

Research Scientist, Nutritional Products, Kerry Group

Alvin is a research scientist with Kerry Group where he develops products that are used by manufacturers of infant formulas and nutritional beverages for children and adults.       His first degree was from NUS Faculty of Science’s Food & Technology Programme, and his PhD was in Biochemistry from NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He had previously worked in A*STAR, Unilever (UK) and KLK Oleochemicals (a Malaysian palm oil chemicals company).

Alvin considers his career path as winding and not for the faint hearted. Notwithstanding this, he feels it has been fun, as he gets to work in multi-faceted environments   – for example, alternating between doing skin biology research in animal and cell models to developing food products and doing technical sales.


 Mr Droston Tang Droston Tang

Country Manager (Singapore),

Droston Tang is the Country Manager of Singapore for, a leading online marketplace for student accommodation in Southeast Asia.

Prior to joining, Droston was Senior Manager, Business Development at The Hertz Corporation (APAC) where he was responsible for the strategic development of outbound business in Asia and spearheaded a regional team of general sales and marketing agents. In 2013, Droston was a recipient of the prestigious Hertz President Circle Award for Sales Excellence.

Early in his career, Droston was a Business/Project Developer at EPURON GmbH and Market Researcher at NTUC Club.

Droston has over ten years of regional experience in consulting, business analysis, sales and marketing. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Probability and Statistics from the National University of Singapore. He is also an active adviser to a social enterprise Whizmeal, which empowers affordable, nutritious meals in schools.


 Mr Jonathan Ngiam

Jonathan NgiamDeputy Director, Animal Management Operations (Wild Animals) Section,
Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA)

Jonathan graduated from NUS in 2009 with a degree in Life Science (Honours) with a concentration in Biology. After graduation, He joined NParks as a Project Officer handling wildlife surveys, conservation and outreach work.In 2012, he joined the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) as part of its First Responder role for animal issues. Here, he oversees the management of human-wildlife conflicts, issues that residents face with owned animals, and enforcement actions against offences related to AVA legislation.



Mr Chen ShimingChen Shiming

Assistant Finance Manager, Hyphens Pharma Pte Ltd

Shiming graduated from NUS in 2008 with a BSc (Honours) with Minor in Management. His first job was a temporary accounting job, which he was quickly converted to a permanent position and began his journey into a career in accounting and finance. During his time with the aerospace firm, he studied ACCA part-time and joined KPMG after     his final examinations. In the few years working for the Big 4 and a medium sized accounting firms, he has gained a wealth of experience in corporate taxation and financial management consulting. Presently at Hyphens Pharma, Shiming's responsibilities ranges the preparation of various management reports to overseeing the accounting functions   for HQ, Singapore, Vietnam, and Philippines.


 Zheng ZhichaoDr Zheng Zhichao

Assistant Professor of Operations Management, Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University

Zhichao received his Bachelor of Science (First Class Honors) in Applied Mathematics from NUS in 2009 with minor in Management, and Ph.D. in Management from the Department of Decision Sciences from NUS Business School. On graduation, he joined SMU LKCSB as an Assistant Professor of Operations Management. His duties include teaching and research. His current research interests lie in the area of prediction and planning under uncertainty. He applies his research in healthcare operations management and decision making, spare parts logistics service planning and contracting, sharing economics, maritime scheduling, and other areas that interest him.

He has engaged in research projects with various companies from different sectors, including Airbus, SingTel and several renowned hospitals.




Dr Yang Jiajing EdwinYang Jiajing Edwin

General Surgery Resident, Singhealth

Edwin is a graduate of NUS’ Faculty of Science Class of 2010, where he served as President of the NUS Students’ Science Club and represented the Faculty at the NUSSU Council. After graduation, Edwin embarked on a career in the civil service, serving in Regulatory Surveillance at the Ministry of Health. He was involved in enforcement operations as well as the crafting of policy for healthcare regulation in Singapore.

Having been exposed to work in public health and public service, Edwin continued to pursue his passion in healthcare, this time as a medical doctor. He started reading medicine in Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore’s second medical school in 2011, graduating in 2016 and entering a coveted residency program in General Surgery at Singhealth. Today, Edwin serves on the frontlines of medicine, delivering healthcare as a doctor, improving lives and transforming the practice of medicine as he trains to become a surgeon.


 Ms Yasniati Lynn Hwang Yasniati Lynn Hwang

Assistant Manager, School of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technology University

Lynn firmly believes that the most important aspect of education is that of the character. Being an advocate of values education through genuine learning experiences, she plays an active role in the management of various projects and initiatives such as the Students’ Leadership Programme.

Years of teaching experience coupled with her degrees in both Physics and Knowledge Management have given her an edge in her analytical and leadership skills. As such,     she is often requested to serve as an advisor in other vital areas. On one such occasion, she took only a year to secure and establish a new partnership for an International School, which resulted in a substantial increment in their students’ enrolment.




Mr Mark Quek Swee Ming Mark Quek Swee Ming

Senior First Officer, Flight Operations, Singapore Airlines Group

Co-owner, Research and Development, FAMC Farming

Co-owner, Research and Development, FAMC Farming Mark graduated from NUS in 2008 with a degree in Life Sciences, concentrating in Biology. Having completed and served    as a mentor in the Special Program in Science (SPS), he wanted to explore exciting job opportunities outside the laboratory. So he applied as an Ab-Initio Cadet Pilot with Singapore Airlines and completed the training in 2011. Having been flying for 5 years, the elation of being in the cockpit and roaring down the runway still brings a warm feeling every time.

Recently, Mark has embarked on a joint venture in sustainable farming, with the objective of providing cheap yet high quality protein to the mass market. As a co-owner, he ensures the smooth operations of the company, and comes up with new processes to ensure that the farm may increase both quality and quantity of its products.




Mr Lee Jun FengLee Jun Feng

University Scholars Programme & Language Preparation Programme (French)
Teacher, Siglap Secondary School

Upon graduation from NUS, Jun Feng enrolled in the one-year (2010) Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) programme (PGDE) at the National Institute of Education (NIE). On successfully completing the programme, he taught Biology at Victoria Junior College for three years followed by a two-year posting at Guidance Branch, Ministry of Education (MOE) HQ.

Work at Guidance Branch involved the crafting of the Education and Career Guidance (ECG) Curriculum for Pre-University, liaison work between industries and schools, training   of newly appointed ECG coordinators and preparing the pioneer batch of ECG Counsellors - a new scheme of service arising from the SkillsFuture recommendations.

Jun Feng return to teaching this year, as a Science Teacher at Siglap Secondary School. Owing to the merger of schools, he is currently undergoing a school attachment at Hougang Primary School in preparation for a Primary School posting next year as a Science and Mathematics teacher. With varied postings from Primary, Secondary and Pre-U schools to MOE HQ, Jun Feng is be able to share on the wide range of challenging and exciting career opportunities offered by MOE.


Mr Steve ChenSteve Chen

Manufacturing Coordinator (Upstream), Novartis

A Life Sciences and Management of Technology graduate from NUS, Steve has established himself in the Biologic and Pharmaceutical industry with close to 10 years of career experience. He is current working as Manufacturing Coordinator (upstream) in a 0.5 billion greenfield biologic start-up project with Novartis. His primary job scope sees him managing the upstream manufacturing team, planning for medium and short term, providing technical leadership from design phase through construction, FAT, Commissioning, Qualification and Validation.

Prior to Novartis, Steve worked as a Process Development Specialist in Manufacturing Science and Technology department in Lonza, where he led multiple international technology transfer projects at 20kL bioreactor scale. He was also responsible as the primary interface with external customers to develop and maintain project     deliverables. Prior to Lonza, Steve worked as a Specialist in Quality department in GlaxoSmithKline, where he planned and executed multiple analytical equipment validation projects.


Dr Oh Ching Mien Oh Ching Mien

Regulatory Specialist, Therapeutics Product Branch, Health Sciences Authority

Dr Oh Ching Mien obtained his B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy and Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the National University of Singapore. His research focussed on formulation development and process optimisation. Currently, he is a regulatory specialist with Health Sciences Authority (HSA), where his responsibilities involve critically evaluating and assessing dossiers of therapeutic products, providing recommendations for regulatory decisions and reviewing regulatory policies, processes and strategies. Before joining HSA, he was a process expert with Novartis, where his provided specialist process knowledge in all issues related to solid dosage form manufacturing, executing process validations and driving continuous improvement projects. Besides the pharmaceutical industry, he has also clinical experience working as a pharmacist in the retail and hospital setting.



Mr Su Lian Jye Su Lian Jye

Senior Analyst, Strategic Technologies and Advisory Services, ABI Research

Lian Jye started his studies in NUS in 2006, majoring in Life Science – Biomedical. After his graduation, he joined Quest Laboratories as a medical technologist. He worked in the Microbiology department, performing laboratory testing to the identification of bacteria, fungal and diseases and was in charge of the antibiotics weekly internal quality control.

After three years in Quest Laboratories, he enrolled in a MBA program in Melbourne, Australia. He worked briefly as a business analyst, focusing on marketing strategies  and internal business operation optimization. On his return to Singapore,he joined ABI Research as a research analyst, working on market research, forecast and trend analysis, and providing strategic recommendation to clients on current and future emerging technology trends. His main focuses are fixed and mobile networks, retail and healthcare supply chain technologies, and the payments industry.



Mr Lim YimingLim Yiming

Yiming joined Cielo Talent in October 2015 with five years’ experience in the recruitment consulting industry. Armed with a strong research background, Yiming specializes in targeted search, where he has successfully executed searches across various functions, focussing primarily on Engineering and Technical positions, both in Research & Development and Manufacturing. With his professional and tenacious attitude, he has been an effective resourcing partner to his clients in developing and maintaining strong working relationships, and balancing the needs of both clients and candidates.

Yiming started his recruitment career in Allegis Group focusing on the Life Sciences sector where he soon attained extensive working knowledge and a strong network in the Biotechnology, Medical Devices and Food and Nutritionals industries.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry, from the National University of Singapore, and has a Diploma in Chemical Process Technology (Industrial Chemistry), from the Singapore Polytechnic.



Dr Tan Wai Jin Tan Wai Jin

Jr. Scientist – Tech Transfer, Vela Diagnostics

 Wai Jin graduated from NUS with Bachelor of Science (Hons) in year 2010. On graduation, she joined Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as Research Coordinator. She continued as a graduate researcher in SGH while pursuing her Ph.D. under NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in year 2011-2015. She went on to A*STAR as Postdoctoral Fellow, working on diagnostics research in the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (IBN). During her Ph.D. and postdoctoral training, she has first-authored 6 papers and co-authored 5 papers in journals like Modern Pathology, Breast Cancer Research, and Nature Genetics, and filed a patent on an assay which she developed with her fellow colleagues in SGH and IBN.

Wai Jin is now working in Vela Diagnostics as a Process Development Scientist in the Tech Transfer team, facilitating the transition of products from R&D to manufacturing.


Dr Luo Wei Wei Luo Wei Wei

Bioimage Informatics Scientist, MSD Singapore

Weiwei pursued her passion in Science after her graduation from NUS with a Computational Biology major in 2009, joining the Mechanobiology Institute as one of its first batch of Ph.D students. She received world-class scientific training from Professor Michael Sheetz and Professor Alexander Bershadsky to understand the physical forces that are involved in cell integrity and motility. She completed her post-doctoral training in Professor Shirish Shenolikar's laboratory in Duke-NUS Medical School to study the localization of mRNA and protein translation control. She recently joined Merck Research Laboratories as a Bioimage Informatics Scientist.



Ms Gladys Yeo Gladys Yeo

Account Management Specialist- Financial Services, Audit and Finance Practice, CEB

Gladys graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Life Science (Environmental Biology) in 2015. Despite graduating with a life science background, she decided to step   out of that domain to explore other opportunities and fields.Within the same year of graduation, she embarked on her first job with CEB, a U.S based research and advisory      firm that supports a global network of C-suite executive across functions and industries. Within her first year with the company, she has worked with C-suite executives in Asia Pacific spanning across the field of sales & marketing, financial services, finance and audit practices in her role with the account management team.

Gladys is also actively involved in the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts in both service to the community, and in leading the office’s Women at CEB that spearheads networking, development, collaboration and mentoring women at the firm.



Mr Zhang Jinfeng Zhang Jinfeng

Senior Broker, Lenders Solution Group, Structured Credit and Political Risk
Marsh and Mclennan

Jinfeng graduated from NUS with a major in Physics. Notwithstanding his education background, he has worked in a number of positions before deciding to pursue his   passion for financials.

He now works in Marsh and Mclennan as a Senior Broker in the Lenders Solution Group of the Structured Credit and Political Risk department.

In his position as a Senior Broker, he engages with banks to procure credit insurance and other forms of risk transfer in order to manage the exposures of the banks or  assist in securing capital relief to allow the banks to administer larger bilateral facilities or participate in syndications with larger ticket sizes.


Dr Murphy Choy Murphy Choy

Chief Data Scientist, BigTapp Analytics

A Statistics and Applied Probability Student from NUS, Murphy started his career with several boutique Analytics start-ups as a practising statistician and spent time at several companies including Standard Chartered Bank before moving to academia.

Murphy now works with BigTapp Analytics as its Chief Data Scientist covering Asia Pacific. In his current position, his primary responsibilities require routine engagements with business leaders to understand and contribute to the delivery of business objectives and plans through the use of analytics. Murphy interprets models and provides insights necessary to deliver the business results and increase organizational capabilities. He also provides advice to the leadership team on managing organization effectiveness  through proper application of analytics. Prior to BigTapp, Murphy worked at Singapore Management University as an Instructor for one of its Masters program.



Dr Ved Prakash Ved Prakash

R&D Engineer, Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies

Ved Prakash graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.) in Applied Mathematics in 2010, and proceeded directly to do his PhD studies in NUS. For his postgraduate studies, he did his coursework in Applied Mathematics and was a graduate student in the computer science group of Centre for Quantum Technologies. He was a recipient of the A*STAR Pre-Graduate Scholarship and the Centre for Quantum Technologies Scholarship, both which are highly competitive bond-free.

Ved wrote his Ph.D thesis on the topic “Algorithms to process big streaming data”, and his research work has been published in various computer science conferences internationally. He has been invited to speak at various conferences and workshops in USA, Canada, UK and Denmark. During his postgraduate studies, he was fully sponsored to attend 3 summer schools in Denmark, USA and Canada.

Ved currently works as a data scientist with the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies, which is an agency in the Ministry of Defence, Singapore. He is a member of the data analytics group, and is currently doing applied research in the areas of data mining and machine learning.



 Mr Esmond Chan Esmond Chan

IT Consultant, FDM Singapore Consulting Pte Ltd

Esmond graduated from NUS in 2016 with a B.Sc., majoring in Quantitative Finance. He joined the FDM Group as a fresh graduate, undergoing the 8-week training   program with the company’s Hong Kong academy. During this period, Esmond gained certification in various project management frameworks such as PRINCE2 and ITIL, while   picking up and/or further developing skills and knowledge in SQL and Excel VBA.

Recently, Esmond has been selected by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) and is due to begin work on client-site as a Project Support Analyst with BAML Singapore's Fixed Income Technology team. In this role, he will be part of a team focused on Application Service Delivery, providing the relevant support (technical/project) for quantitative traders and users of e-trading applications. Additionally, Esmond will be involved in the development of automated processes for   BAML, working within their framework to develop IT solutions for the Bank.


Ms Woon Siew Yan Woon Siew Yan

Education Executive, Education Department
Wildlife Reserves Singapore

After graduating with a B.Sc. in Chemistry in 2015, Siew Yan embarked on her career with Wildlife Reserves Singapore as an Education Executive. Her varied and interesting responsibilities include conducting education programmes like guided tours, camps and training workshops, running outreach programmes internally and externally, and maintaining the animal collection in the Education Department.





Mr Andrew Liew Wei Da Andrew Liew Wei Da

Head of Analytics, Qicstart

Andrew founded Qicstart in 2014 and his many fortes include assisting companies in data automation to increase data accuracy and computational efficiency, App development, constructing predictive  statistical programming and so on. He helps to “tech-grow” companies with speed and risk reduction.
During a mega hackaton in Mar 2015, his team was ranked top 5 out of 20 teams ranking for building a prototype to deepen the relationship with the customer in the digital world.

Andrews has many years of experience in startup companies. He was previously in research and teaching assistant in Australian National University.

 Mr Chua Zi Han

Manager, Festival, Events and Exhibitions, National Parks BoardChua Zi Han

Zi Han started his career at a small-medium enterprise (SME) where he placed in charge of its brand, advertising and communications, and coordinated both internal and external events, including regional trade shows, sponsored events, and partnerships. With this invaluable experience behind him, Zi Han moved on to National Parks Board in 2014. He now oversees revenue channels and partners for events within Singapore Botanic Gardens and plays contributing roles in major events like the Singapore Garden Festival. This includes engaging sponsors, coordinating projects between partners and stakeholders, and streamlining income workflows.
