February 1999

Formation of Faculty Safety Committee, chaired by Vice Dean and comprising department representatives.

May 2007

The first Faculty to conduct detailed safety management system audits for all laboratory-based departments, with Office of Safety, Health & Environment (OSHE).

June 2007

The first NUS Faculty to form Safety and Health Working Committee, comprising Department Safety Coordinators.

July - August 2007

Initiated new flagship programmes like Housekeeping Inspection for nominated teaching laboratories.

Conducted first Emergency Pandemic Crisis Management Exercise.

May - June 2008

Housekeeping Inspection Campaign was expanded to include all research laboratories in the Faculty, with certification categories - A, B, C and D.

September 2009

First Science Safety Day featured safety talks, a carnival and recognition of the best teaching and research laboratories based on the annual housekeeping campaign scores.

February 2012

The Faculty’s Safety and Health Working Committee won the Gold Award of OSHE’s Safety & Health Innovation Project for implementing first-aid boxes with cartlocks which are widely used across campus.

September 2012

Developed Faculty-based Safety Management System Laboratory Dossier to assist PIs in SHMS documentation.

September 2013

Incorporated department safety days for laboratory-based departments as part of Science Safety Week.

December 2013

Inaugural Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) inspection covering all Science buildings.

December 2016

Faculty achieved goal of “ZERO” findings (including Notice of Fire Safety Offence and Fire Hazard Abatement Notice) at annual SCDF inspection.
