SEA Games Singapore debutant, Robert Boon, Year 2 Pharmaceutical Science student, is part of the Singapore eSports (Mobile Legends Bang Bang) team - the first time to be included at this biennial Games!
TeamNUS speakes to Robert to find out more about his SEA Games debut.
Q: When and how did you get involved with E-sport?
A: I started casually playing computers games since young. When I was in the army, I started playing Mobile Legends as it was a game which many of us played to pass time. I decided to sign up for a competition and somehow I won. One thing led to another and here I am representing Singapore in eSports.
Q: What are your biggest challenges to be selected in the team and how did you overcome them?
A:There were qualifiers held in May this year and there were quite a few other strong teams which we were afraid of. Luckily, we had a coach to help us which made it easier.
Additionally as the qualifiers were held in the midst of my final papers then, I had to make sure that I manage my time properly.
Q: Who are your biggest supporters in your pursuit?
A: Definitely my family. Even though they don’t understand the game, they would still be there at my competitions or at least watch it live. I am also fortunate to have the support of my faculty who is helping me to rearrange my exams which clash with the Games and of course, my professors who have been very understanding and helpful in my journey as a student athlete.
Q: What are your hopes for the upcoming SEA Games?
A: Of course my hopes for the upcoming SEA games is to win and bring back a medal for Singapore.
