Science Student Awards 2018
On 28 September, the Faculty held the annual Science Student Awards ceremony at University Hall Auditorium, in recognition of a select group of students for their outstanding performance in a particular field of study for the Academic Year 2017/2018.
The awards were presented in the form of medals, cash and/or book vouchers, and they came from the proceeds of donations by individuals and corporations.
34 award recipients and their guests attended the event. The event was also graced by the various Heads of Departments, as well as representatives from our benefactors, such as KH Roberts Pte Ltd, Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC), Sembcorp Marine Ltd, etc.
Recipient of the Lim Soo Peng Book Prize Andrea Esmeralda HALIM, Year 3, Computational Biology, said, “The prize is a great source of encouragement for me to work even harder in the upcoming semesters. Majoring in Computational Biology has not been easy but this award has affirmed that hard work pays off.”
Recipient of the SIS Sugar Prize Joel TAN Wan Rong, Year 2, Data Science and Analytics, said, “It is great that students are recognised for their diligence in achieving goals. I am grateful to my professors who have helped students develop our passions in our areas of interest."
Recipient of the Arthur Rajaratnam Prize Ravinraj S/O RAMARAJ, Year 3, Physics, said, “I thoroughly enjoyed delving into experimental physics, as it allowed me to understand the inner workings of key physical principles through experiments. The professors were highly encouraging in going beyond the expectations of the module. This taught me to brush aside failure and trust in keen experimentation when in search of exciting phenomena.”
Recipient of the SIS Sugar Prize LOW Zi An, Year 2, Life Sciences, said, “I am extremely grateful to have received the award. It validates my approach towards learning, which requires understanding and application of the concepts taught. I will continue to work hard in my quest to pursue learning.”
Recipient of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC) Book Prize Kevin Christopher BOELLAARD, Year 3, Chemistry, said, “Receiving the award is a huge motivator and reassures me that I am on the right track, despite the challenges I faced. I would like to encourage my friends to take risks, rely on each other during tough times and not be afraid to fail.”
