Overseas Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) is ranked the top university in Spain with Natural Sciences ranked 54 by QS World University Ranking 2019. Selected students will be admitted to UAM Faculty of Sciences, which is one of the most relevant university research centres in Spain. High profile research lines, prestigious research groups, national and international relationships with universities of excellence, participation in large research projects, as well as close collaborations with other public R&D institutions makes the Faculty a relevant player in science-related research in Spain.
UAM Faculty of Science comprises 17 Departments with research focuses in the areas of Biology, Ecology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, among others. The Faculty's main objective is to be a model institution in the national and international high degree educational scene and to dedicate a significant part of its resources to develop a university research exemplary centre within its premises.
The programme takes place in Madrid, Spain.
The programme takes place from 13 May 2019 to 3 Aug 2019.
Students will be assessed according to the assessment criteria of their home department at NUS, and obtain credits and grades for a Level 2000/3000 UROPS.
With effect from AY2018/2019, students may transfer up to a maximum of 10 Modular Credits (MCs) for each summer programme (takes place between May and July) and up to a maximum of 5 MCs for each winter programme (takes place in December).
Students can map a total of 12 MCs from a maximum of 2 overseas summer/winter programmes without having to pay tuition at NUS. Any additional MCs mapped will be subjected to NUS Special Term fees.
NUS students must:
- Be a full-time Faculty of Science student.
- Have a clean disciplinary record.
- All Year 2 and Year 3 students may apply
- Not intending to graduate at the end of Semester 2.
- Not be National Servicemen who are called up for In-Camp Training (ICT). Deferment letter will not be provided.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview at the Science Dean’s Office in the week of 21 January 2019.
An internal offer does not guarantee your placement in the programme. Your admission outcome is up to the discretion of the partner institution.
Number of Places
The number of places is decided by UAM.
Students do not need to pay NUS Special Term fees or tuition fees to UAM if they do not exceeed the credits transfer limit stated under the section "Credits" above. However, students are responsible for their own airfare, accommodation, meals, personal expenses, etc.

Food and Transport
Participants may be awarded the Santander Undergraduate Research Exchange (SURE) Programme Fund of USD$2,000, sponsored by Banco Santander. Do note that students holding this award will not be eligible to apply for NUS Awards for Study Abroad (NASA) Enhancement Scholarship/Bursary to support their participation in this programme.

- Personal statement, including your area of research interest/project, why you are interested in the mentioned area/project, etc. Please indicate clearly the project you are interested in (if projects list is provided). Otherwise, please indicate the supervisor you wish to work with. Please do not contact the research supervisor at UAM for a placement before receiving an internal offer from NUS.
