Career Management Course: The Business of Academic Biomedical Research

The course is of particular use to students, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research. The course will introduce them to topics that have been largely inaccessible in their undergraduate and graduate biomedical course curriculum. The course will aid making the right decisions in their biomedical research careers; provide a broad perspective on the business side of academic biomedical research, and introduce students to topics like: “the economics of science”, “organizational structure”, “leadership & management in research organizations”, “science project management”, ”career planning and management”, etc.
George Dimopoulos is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research focuses on the innate immune system and microbiomes of mosquito vectors that transmit human pathogens with the long-term goal of developing novel intervention strategies.
This course is open to Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows or young faculty staff.
